Hip, hip hooray!! It's desert season. Everyone raise your hands and do a little dance. Last weekend we went out to my favorite desert hang, Moab. When I say we go to Moab, we are rarely actually in the town of Moab but rather in some nearby area surrounding Moab with that lovely red sandstone, fine red dirt and, hopefully, few other people.
We went out there with our friends, Steve and Andrea, and their dog, Daisy. We try to get out there with them at least once in the fall and once in the spring. It is really easy to do desert trips with them since we've done it so much together. We know each other's quirks, needs, etc. And, they like Logan and Eden and we like Daisy, so that makes it a whole lot easier. Not to mention that Eden and Daisy like each other, too. Love all around.
Saturday was a bit hot, but Sunday was cloudy and perfect temps. I'd tell you where we went but so far we've never seen anyone else back there, so I can't. It is great camping and decent climbing. I'm sure I've said this before, but it is so relaxing and rejuvenating to be out there. I simply love it.
We arrived about 1:30am on Friday night/Saturday morning, thanks, in part, to me missing the last exit for gas. We didn't run out, but had to drive to the next gas station, then back to our exit. Anyway, we didn't get much sleep that night. Logan had fallen asleep on the drive and then was awake when we got there. He didn't want to sleep in his sleeping bag and was shivering in the corner of the tent, so I invited him into my bag. Yeah, not good sleep - for me anyway.

Morning already? |
Saturday, we went climbing. I carried Logan up in the kid backpack carrier. Everyone else carried climbing, kid and dog gear. He was a great passenger. He was excited to go "up high" as it was a steep hike to the base of the climbing. Once we got up to the base, he got out and walked around on his own. He is quite adept at the uneven terrain of trails and such.

Top of the hike. Time for exploring! |

Having a good time! |
Logan and I were sleeping in a tent together while we were camping. Saturday night, I put Logan to bed. We read some stories, sang a few songs and said goodnight. He was pretty riled up, throwing himself onto our sleeping bags "me crash" and such. But, at home, we frequently leave him in his room and eventually he puts himself to bed. So, I said goodnight and went to the campfire which was a ways away from the tent. I sat down, cracked a brewskie and settled into some campfire tomfoolery. Probably 5 minutes later Logan comes around this huge bush with a grin ear to ear and yells, "Boo!". He had unzipped the tent and walked over to us in the dark. It was hilarious. After hanging out for a bit, we both went to bed. Once he was asleep, I slid him into his own sleeping bag and he stayed there all night.

Good Morning! |
We climbed Sunday, too. It was cloudy which created a nice break from the heat. We got some fun pitches in and had a nice day. Logan seems interested in climbing a bit. When the rope is hanging from the anchor, he will take one end, wrap it around himself and then hand the other end to you. Then he turns to the rock and starts trying to use his hands and feet to go "up high". It's pretty darn cute. Soon Soon, Young Man.

Logan wanting to climb |
When we got down from climbing it was time to clean up camp and head home. A weekend is barely enough time for these trips but in the end it is worth the effort.

And, come Monday morning, nothing says "that was a good weekend" like a layer of fine red dirt tracked through your house.
