Thanksgiving in Moab!

We drove out to Moab on Thanksgiving Day. It started raining in Glenwood Springs, rained the rest of the drive to Moab and that night. Friday morning it cleared up for a fantastic weekend. Steve and Andrea came out also. It was fun to spend the holiday with good friends and in such an amazing place.

On Friday we rode the Slickrock Trail. It was really crowded and sort of felt like an amusement park. There were families on mountain bikes, folks on dirtbikes and 4WD trucks and jeeps. It was a little chaotic for my liking. Beautiful scenery, however. This is Brian ripping it up.Andrea also ripping it up.Saturday, we had plans to do a climb on Parriot Mesa. In classic group formation, however, we got a really late start. Here's Brian, Steve, Andrea and Cairo at our parking spot. This is the intended climb, Ascended Yoga Masters. You can see the crack is quite large - pretty much entirely offwidth and chimney climbing. Egads! View from the base of the climb. Looking towards Castle Valley Road and the River Road.Racking up.We were debating about whether to do the climb at all (late start, party of 3, guidebook mentioning getting benighted because the walkoff was hard to find). And, then Brian pulled the climbing shoes he brought with us and they were mine! That made the decision not to climb pretty easy. Instead we'd hike around and scope out the descent for a future ascent.Great view of Castle Valley.Castleton Tower with the La Sal Mountains in the background.

Sunday, we decided to ride again (which meant a whole weekend without climbing, if you can believe it!). We did a shuttle run on the Porcupine Rim trail. It was awesome. I wish we hadn't cut out the climbing but we were trying to make a shorter day of things in order to not get back super late on a school night.

Another fantastic weekend in Moab. Can't wait to get back!
